If you are hosting Thanksgiving or Christmas this year you may already be in a frenzy of planning and deep cleaning readying your home for guests. Maybe you are reading this, it’s the night before , and you want to find a few ways to cozy or freshen up your home for the holidays. Here are 7 things you can quickly do to make it friendly and inviting- no shopping, no stress, more time to enjoy with thanksgiving guests.
1.Simmering Potpourri– about 20 to 30 minutes before guests are due to arrive put on a pot of simmering potpourri, this is a blend I made for Premeditated Leftovers and it smells divine- filling the house with the scent of the holidays!
2.Stock Bathroom– Make sure there is a full roll of toilet paper ready on the roll so guests don’t need to search through cabinets, put out fresh soap, hand towels, and a can of air freshener.
3.Fluff pillows- and add a pile of soft throws, especially if the weather is chilly. Your guests can make themselves comfortable without needing to ask for a blanket.
4.Make a basket for leftovers to go– Go ahead and grab disposable containers, freezer bags, and gift tags and have them ready for guests to pack up leftovers. They wont forget your hospitality.
5.Kids Activities– Set up an area for the kids to keep them busy. Cover a small table in brown wrapping shipping paper and set out crayons for a unique coloring display. Leave out a stack a kid friendly games for them, make some homemade playdough the day before and leave it out with a few holiday cookie cutters and other items. Try this Spiced Gingerbread Playdough here for a great holiday scent.
6.Create a Coffee/Cocoa Station– It doesn’t have to be elaborate and fancy but it makes it easy for your guests to grab their own custom beverage on the way in, and during dessert. Keep it simple and offer a variety of creamers, stir ins, etc…
7. Relax– Don’t worry about every crumb on the floor or wall that needs painting in your house. I have spent many holidays and birthdays fretting, running around at the last minute trying to fix up everything I possibly could. This left me stressed out and in a bad mood by the time guests arrived. Give them your smile and hospitality instead by not sweating all the small stuff..and really most of its small stuff.
