In order to keep learning in our homeschool fun I often turn to games to keep the kids interested and enjoying our learning time rather than dreading it. We have gathered quite a collection and they fill several shelves and need frequent rotation. My requirements are that the games can be played by multiple ages-I have a 5 and 8 year old, are fun, and reinforce skills that we are currently learning. I find that a really good game has something to offer all of us while the kids are entertained. Here are 7 games that I have found that meet all my criteria and the kids love and actually beg to play so we reach for them regularly.
Sum Swamp- A great simple math game that let’s your child practice addition and subtraction skills.
Silly Sentences- My kids love this, even my little who can’t read yet giggles like crazy as we read our silly sentences outloud.
Think Fun Math Dice– Another game for simple math problems that can be played in several variations.
Scrambled States- A fun geography game that helps children quickly learn state names, capitals, shapes, and positions with colorful illustrations.
Alphabet Go Fish- Even older children that know their letters can enjoy a good game of go fish.
Scrabble/Scrabble Jr.- While my little one is not ready to spell words yet she helps me place tiles as I play with my son. I tell her the letter I need from my holder or tell her the sound and let her find it-giving her phonics practice.
Skip-Bo Jr- Great when you need a game to reinforce sequencing, but for younger children it also refreshes number recognition and teaches strategy to all age groups.
